History of 2015 Thanksgiving.Bible Hackathon

This website Thanksgiving.Bible was launched on the weekend before Thanksgiving 2015 as a virtual hackathon, to feature the creativity of God’s people in expressing thanks through a website. The hackathon contest info is archived below for learning purposes. Probably due to the short notice of the announcement, we did not receive enough entries to give thanks together through Thanksgiving.Bible. We have pivoted and made this website a curated collection for all things Bible towards making Thanksgiving memorable and meaningful.

We want to give thanks together with you for God’s goodness in giving us His Word and every good thing that comes from the Father of lights. So we are dedicating this domain name Thanksgiving.Bible for Thanksgiving 2015 to giving thanks. And here’s how we can give thanks together!

A Weekend Online Hackathon

Your project, should you choose to accept it, is to launch a website about Thanksgiving and how the Bible inspires us to give thanks. Let your heart and mind express your thanks through using your skills to craft words and images on a website that invites people to give thanks for God’s many blessings.

One special twist to this hackathon = coding skills are not required! You may use a website builder (like Weebly or Wix or Squarespace), a blog (WordPress.com or Blogger.com), or if you can code, go all out and build something to dazzle and give thanks.

3 Simple Rules

  1. The website may be brand new & built from scratch or it may be an existing website that’s modified to make use of this new domain name, Thanksgiving.Bible.
  2. The .BIBLE team will choose no more than 5 finalists and a public 24-hour poll will select the winner.
  3. The winning website will be connected to the domain Thanksgiving.Bible and goes live on Wednesday, November 25th, 2015!

How to Enter
Entries may be submitted here at Thanksgiving.Bible starting Friday, November 20th, 2015 (12:00am Eastern Time) through Sunday, November 22nd, 2015 (11:59pm Eastern Time).

How to Win
The .BIBLE team encourages entries that will demonstrate the best and highest use of the domain Thanksgiving.Bible. We would love to see God’s creativity at work in you, and we’re looking for innovation, creativity, innovation, and interactivity.

But, it is the public who will have the final say through the Thanksgiving.Bible online poll of the finalists; the poll will run for 24 hours, starting Monday, November 23rd at 6:00pm Eastern to Tuesday, November 24th at 5:59pm Eastern. The website entry with the most votes will be declared the winner and the tribe will have spoken.

IS THERE AN ENTRY FEE?

Nope. Enter freely and allow the Bible to inspire you. And, okay, multiple entries will be allowed. Both commercial and personal entries will be allowed. We really want to lower any barriers to entry so that we can give thanks together!

 

WHAT DOES THE WINNER GET?

  1. Use of the Thanksgiving.Bible domain name for (almost) a year!
  2. Publicity through all of the .BIBLE communication and marketing channels!
  3. Gain the experience and reputation for being an innovator, pioneer, and early adopter!
  4. The thrill of victory for winning a hackathon and all the bragging rights therein!
  5. The joy of a most memorable Thanksgiving to celebrate with friends and family!
  6. More followers on Twitter and friends on Facebook!
  7. New opportunities that will come your way for such an accomplishment!

The DNS records for Thanksgiving.Bible will be set to point to the winner’s website, starting Wednesday, November 25th, 2015 and will run on that domain until October 31, 2016. Technical integration and DNS propagation will be required; the .BIBLE team will work with the winner to get everything setup.

This Thanksgiving.Bible hackathon is being hosted by the .BIBLE Registry, the new top-level domain for all things Bible.
